Terms version: 2

Provider: Goodhope Technologies LLC ("we", "us"), United States. Email: support@goodhopetech.com. Our business address and phone number are shown on QuestHold's Google Play listing.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Goodhope Technologies LLC about the QuestHold AI app ("QuestHold"). By ticking "I agree" in the app, or by using QuestHold, you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use QuestHold.
1. What QuestHold is
QuestHold is a story game. An AI Game Master runs your campaign: the world, its people, the dice and the story. After a one-time download, the AI runs entirely on your phone. QuestHold has no accounts and no servers of its own, and nothing you type or say is sent to us. If you play co-op, the phones at your table send each other the game over your own Wi-Fi or hotspot (the Privacy Policy says exactly what).
2. Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old to use QuestHold. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use QuestHold only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms for you. QuestHold asks Google Play's Age Signals service about your account's age (the Privacy Policy explains how). If Google Play says the account belongs to someone under 13, QuestHold cannot be played on it. If you are under 18, Pro must be bought with a parent's approval: through Google Play's parental approval if a parent manages your account, or by the parent. Where the law requires a verified age, Pro waits until you confirm your age in Google Play.
3. The download
Before you can play, QuestHold downloads its AI models from Hugging Face and GitHub, and on some phones from Google Play (the Privacy Policy lists every one). The app shows the total size before anything starts, and nothing downloads until you say so. Every file is checked against a fixed size and fingerprint before it is used. If you choose to download on mobile data, your carrier's charges apply. Which models your phone gets depends on what it can run.
4. The story is made by AI
- The Game Master is an AI. The story, the characters, the names of places and people, the pictures and the voices you hear are made by AI models running on your phone. They are fiction.
- AI can be wrong, inconsistent or strange, and despite our filters it can sometimes say or show something unsuitable. We do not see or review what the AI makes for you, and it does not speak for us.
- The dice, rules and numbers are decided by the game's own code; the AI only tells them as story, and it can occasionally tell them wrongly.
- Nothing in QuestHold is advice of any kind (medical, legal, financial, safety or anything else). Do not act in real life on anything the story says.
- Campaigns can include fantasy danger, fighting, peril and the death of characters.
- Pictures and storybooks QuestHold makes carry a label saying they were made with AI, both visible and inside the file where computers can read it. Do not remove or hide those labels, and do not present AI-made pictures, stories or voices as the work of a person in order to deceive anyone.
5. Reporting what the AI makes
If the Game Master writes something offensive, unsafe or wrong, press and hold the passage to report it. If a picture is offensive or unsuitable, press and hold the picture to report it. The passage or picture is hidden on your phone straight away. You can then choose to email the report to us; the Privacy Policy explains exactly what that email contains. We read reports and use them to make QuestHold better.
6. Your stories
What you type or say, and the stories you make, are yours. We claim no rights in them, and we never see them unless you send them to us (for example in a report). You are responsible for what you create with QuestHold and for how you use and share it.
When you play co-op, you are responsible for what you send the other players (your moves and table chat), and these Terms apply to it as to everything else. Play co-op only with people you know, on a network you trust.
7. Rules for using the AI models
QuestHold's AI models are made by other people and licensed on condition that everyone who uses them follows certain rules. Those rules are part of these Terms, and you must comply with them. If you break them, your right to use QuestHold ends (section 13).
7.1 Stable Diffusion and LCM-LoRA (pictures)
On phones that paint pictures, QuestHold uses Stable Diffusion v1.5, licensed under the CreativeML OpenRAIL-M license, together with LCM-LoRA, licensed under the CreativeML Open RAIL++-M license. Those models, and every version QuestHold uses (such as compressed or merged copies), are subject to paragraph 5 ("Use-based restrictions") of those licenses. The use restrictions below are copied word for word from Attachment A of both licenses; in them, "the Model" means those models and "Derivatives of the Model" means any version made from them. They are an enforceable part of these Terms.
You agree not to use the Model or Derivatives of the Model:
- In any way that violates any applicable national, federal, state, local or international law or regulation;
- For the purpose of exploiting, harming or attempting to exploit or harm minors in any way;
- To generate or disseminate verifiably false information and/or content with the purpose of harming others;
- To generate or disseminate personal identifiable information that can be used to harm an individual;
- To defame, disparage or otherwise harass others;
- For fully automated decision making that adversely impacts an individual’s legal rights or otherwise creates or modifies a binding, enforceable obligation;
- For any use intended to or which has the effect of discriminating against or harming individuals or groups based on online or offline social behavior or known or predicted personal or personality characteristics;
- To exploit any of the vulnerabilities of a specific group of persons based on their age, social, physical or mental characteristics, in order to materially distort the behavior of a person pertaining to that group in a manner that causes or is likely to cause that person or another person physical or psychological harm;
- For any use intended to or which has the effect of discriminating against individuals or groups based on legally protected characteristics or categories;
- To provide medical advice and medical results interpretation;
- To generate or disseminate information for the purpose to be used for administration of justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes, such as predicting an individual will commit fraud/crime commitment (e.g. by text profiling, drawing causal relationships between assertions made in documents, indiscriminate and arbitrarily-targeted use).
You are accountable for the pictures you make with these models and for how you use them.
7.2 EmbeddingGemma 2 (campaign memory, pictures and sound)
QuestHold uses EmbeddingGemma 2 by Google to look back over long campaigns, read a new world's description, check that each painted picture shows what it should, find scenes by their pictures and match the soundscape to each place. It is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. It carries no use restrictions of its own beyond the law and these Terms.
7.3 Gemma 4 (the Game Master)
The story model, Gemma 4 E2B by Google, is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. It carries no use restrictions of its own beyond the law and these Terms.
7.4 Full license texts
The full texts of these licenses are inside the app, so you can read them offline: Settings, Credits and licenses, Open-source libraries. They are also online:
- CreativeML OpenRAIL-M: huggingface.co/spaces/CompVis/stable-diffusion-license
- CreativeML Open RAIL++-M: huggingface.co/stabilityai/stable-diffusion-xl-base-1.0/blob/main/LICENSE.md
- Apache License 2.0: apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0
8. What you must not do
- Use QuestHold to break the law, or against the rules in section 7.
- Try to get around the picture safety filter, or try to make QuestHold produce sexual content, content that sexualizes minors, or content meant to harass or harm real people.
- Copy, sell, rent or redistribute QuestHold, or reverse engineer it, except where the law or an open-source license for one of its parts allows it. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under an open-source license.
9. Free play, the trial and Pro
- Free: up to 100 turns a day. A turn is one action you take that the Game Master answers; menus, maps, dice rolls, Ask the GM, recaps and the Game Master's own retries do not count, and an action you take back with Undo is given back. If you reach the limit partway through a scene, you get up to 5 more turns to finish it (up to 10 during a fight). The count runs over a rolling 24 hours and is kept on your phone. Free play continues one world of your own at a time; Dust Hollow and the sample worlds are always free. Your other worlds stay saved on your phone and you can read them, but only Pro continues them. Nothing is deleted.
- Trial: for the first 7 days after you install QuestHold, everything in Pro is unlocked.
- Pro: a one-time purchase of $19.99 USD (the price can differ by country; Google Play shows you the price before you buy). It is not a subscription. Pro removes the daily turn limit and unlocks the Pro features listed in the app. If a parent supervises your Google account, Google Play may ask them to approve the purchase first; Pro unlocks once they approve it.
- Payment: purchases go through Google Play. We never see or store your card details.
- Refunds: refunds follow Google Play's refund policies; ask Google Play for one. A refunded purchase ends Pro.
- Restoring Pro: Pro belongs to the Google account you bought it with. Install QuestHold on a phone signed in to that account to get it back.
10. Your campaigns live only on your phone
Your campaigns are stored only on your phone, encrypted. We have no copy and cannot recover them. Uninstalling QuestHold, clearing its storage, resetting the phone, or a reset of the phone's secure key store deletes them or makes them unreadable. Please keep this in mind before you do any of those.
11. Our app
QuestHold, its name, logo, design, rules and game content belong to Goodhope Technologies LLC. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to install and use QuestHold for your own play under these Terms. The AI models, fonts, open-source libraries and Creative Commons tabletop game systems (including Ironsworn, SRD 5.1 and Blades in the Dark) belong to their owners and are used under their own licenses (listed in Settings, Credits and licenses).
12. No promises, and limits on our liability
QuestHold is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or able to run on every phone, or that what the AI writes or paints will be accurate or suitable.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Goodhope Technologies LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data (including lost campaigns), arising from your use of QuestHold or your inability to use it. Our total liability for any claim about QuestHold is limited to the amount you paid us for it. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
13. Ending
You can stop using QuestHold at any time by uninstalling it. If you break these Terms, especially section 7, your right to use QuestHold ends and you must stop using it and delete it.
14. Changes to these Terms
When we change these Terms in a way that matters, we give them a new version number, and QuestHold asks you to agree again before you next play. Your campaigns are kept and nothing is downloaded again. If you do not agree to the new Terms, stop using QuestHold.
15. Google Play
If you got QuestHold from Google Play, Google Play's own terms also apply. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for QuestHold.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
